Scalp Pigmentation
Microblading for full brows is a technique that you may have heard about.
Did you know there is a similar type of procedure for your scalp? It is is known as Scalp micropigmentation (SMP).
Scalp Micropigmentation is a life-changing hair loss therapy in which natural pigments are placed to the scalp to mimic the natural appearance of original hair follicles, giving you the impression of a full head of hair or added density to thin hair. Scalp Micropigmentation can be a truly confidence-boosting procedure with absolutely no downtime at all!
How does it work?
Microblading and Scalp Micropigmentation fall under the same category however they are are essentially different methods of establishing pigment. Micropigmentation is performed with an electric tattoo instrument, whereas microblading is usually done with a manual blade. This is because the skin on your scalp, which is thicker than the skin beneath your brows, requires more strength to penetrate.
Instead of creating hairlike lines like you would when microblading brows, SMP uses small, layered dots in various shades of black to mimic the effect of a shadow on your scalp this pointillism technique is used to generate natural-looking depth and definition. The dots will be designed accurately to resemble a natural hair follicle and blend in flawlessly with your skin tone.
What areas can be treated?
This treatment is for the scalp only and can produce amazing results for people that may be experiencing many different types of hair loss such as:
- alopecia
- thinning hair
- baldness
- cancer
Is Scalp Micropigmentation safe?
Although Scalp Micropigmentation isn’t considered to be a tattoo as the tattoo ink doesn’t go very deep into the tissue and also doesn’t require the use of a thick needle to inject the skin just like any other procedure there may still be risks involved. These can include sensitivities/allergies to particular colour components and infections caused by tattoo ink.
We also recommend that anyone with scalp acne or other skin sensitivities, such as psoriasis, should avoid receiving SMP during a breakout or flare-up because applying pigment to the irritated areas would be difficult. Also you should avoid this procedure if you’re prone to keloids, which are more common in people with darker skin.
What to expect?
Our professional practitioner will apply a topical numbing medication to your scalp prior to the procedure. However, it’s important to remember that you may still feel some type of discomfort and the amount of this discomfort is dependant upon how much pain you can tolerate as everyone has different tolerance levels.
