Plasma Treatment

The dermal layer thins as we age, less collagen is created, the elastin fibers that give us flexibility wear away and the skin’s structure alters, causing it to wrinkle and sag. Basically, our skin loses laxity and texture that’s why these signs appear.

The Plasma Pen is a highly versatile, non-invasive and non-surgical procedure that’s remarkably effective in wrinkle soothing, eyelid tightening, eyelid hood reduction and to repair, lift, regenerate and rejuvenate any area of the skin to spectacularly improve the skin tone and texture.

How does it work?

When a gas travels through an electromagnetic field, ionised gas partials form in the air between the device tip and the skin, producing plasma energy. This plasma energy transforms the solid state of the skin into a gaseous one by creating microscopic holes in it with the Plasma Pen. The term used for this procedure is
Sublimation. The Sublimation process is used to treat the skin causing the elastic fibers to shrink this tightens and retracts the skin, giving similar benefits to those from surgery but without the uncomfortable painful scarring and downtime.

The micro trauma caused by the Plasma Pen drives the formation of new collagen (neocollagenesis), as well as the release and activation of important proteins and growth factors such as cytokines and fibroblasts, which result in the production of more collagen and elastin than before the disruption. By thermally disrupting the skin and fibroblasts, the Plasma Pen creates instant lift and dramatic skin tightening straight away. The epidermis is renewed by causing old cells to shed and being replaced by new, healthy cells. After the Plasma Pen treatment new collagen can continue to be form over a period of 12 weeks.

Is Fibro-blasting treatment safe?

Although the treatment is extremely safe, skin hypopigmentation-whitening or hyperpigmentation-darkening might occur in rare cases – dark patches are generally more common in darker skin tones therefore due to this risk factor we encourage anyone with darker skin tones to avoid this treatment. Redness may last for a few months following the treatment in people with lighter skin tones.

What to expect?

Before the procedure:

At Selina’s we try to make the procedure as comfortable and pain free as possible so we ensure we clean and prepare your skin prior to the treatment. Our skilled health practitioner will numb the treatment area with topical anaesthetic to reduce any pain and discomfort. You you may feel a faint tingling sensation and slightly uncomfortable when having treatment to more sensitive places, such as the eyelids, where the skin is thinnest.
However, because the treatments are short and effective, any potential discomfort will be minimised.

It normally takes approx. 35 – 45 minutes to treat each upper or lower area however this may vary depending on the amount and size of areas being treated.

After the treatment

The area treated may feel warmer than usual we will provide you with full advice of how to care for your skin post treatment i.e. applying cold compress to reduce heat sensation, any swelling or using cooling/soothing gel etc. Multiple centimetre trauma marks will occur on the skin’s surface, which will look as brown crusts on the skin and can stay for 3 to 7 days. These crusts will dry up and come off in the days after treatment however to avoid infection, discoloration, or scarring it is critical not to pick at or peel them to avoid infection, discoloration, or scarring. Weeping of the skin is possible, but it will settle quickly. Some swelling may occur particularly if the eye area has been treated but this is common and expected. Swelling might last anywhere from one to five days.

*Please note redness may last for a few months following the treatment in people with lighter skin tones.

How many Treatments are needed?

Sometimes some improvements can be seen right away, and they continue to improve in the months following therapy.The skin will quickly appear tighter and some lines will disappear. For the 12 weeks after treatment, the collagen fibres will continue to rebuild and reproduce, therefore the treatment area will continue to improve. The effects might last up to three years and are sometimes permanent.

Depending on factors such as personal expectations, age, amount of loose skin you may require more than one treatment. However any further treatments would need to be after the minimum time of 12 weeks or after 3 months as it can take up to this long for new collagen fibres to form.

The Plasma Pen cannot stop the natural ageing process however it is proven to give dramatic results.
