Botox
Botox (Botulinum toxin) is a wrinkle muscle relaxant that is injected. Botox is a minimally invasive procedure. It’s considered to be a safe and efficient therapy for wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes. It can also be applied to the area between the eyes on the forehead.
How does it work?
Botox injections acts by preventing nerve signals and muscle contractions for a short period of time. Wrinkles around the eyes and between the brows are reduced as a result. It can also help to prevent new wrinkles from forming by preventing facial muscle contraction.
It’s a process with a low level of invasiveness. There are no incisions or general anesthesia required. A topical anesthetic or ice can numb the treatment area if you’re worried about pain or discomfort.
What areas can be treated?
At Selina’s we use Botox (Botulinum toxin) injections to relax the muscles in your face to smooth out lines and wrinkles. The area we treat are crow’s feet (around the eyes), frown lines between the eyes (glabellar region) and forehead lines.
Is Botox safe?
The risks of Botox injection are very minimal as long as you have them administered by a qualified practitioner. Here at Selina’s you can rest assured that you will only have your Botox needle injected by one of our most qualified and professional practitioners.
We advise against Botox in certain situations such as if:
- your skin is infected
- you have a neuromuscular disease such as myasthenia gravis
- you are sick in any way
- you are taking specific prescription medication
- you are pregnant or breastfeeding
What to expect?
Botulinum toxin will be injected into muscles in your face using a very thin needle after your face has been cleansed. To help determine the optimal spot for the injections, you’ll be asked to move the muscles in your face. Around 3-5 doses of botulinum toxin type A will be administered by your provider using a tiny needle during the procedure. They will inject the area between the brows if that is the chosen area. To smooth out crow’s feet, you’ll normally require three injections on each side of each eye. The procedure roughly takes 10 minutes on average.
Following treatment you may experience some bruising, swelling, and redness where the needles went in the skin and for the first 24 hours a headache and flu-like symptoms.
You won’t see a difference immediately as it takes two or three days to get started, and two to three weeks to see the full benefit.
For three days, do not massage or rub your face also over the next two days, avoid strenuous exercise, tanning (especially sunbeds), and the sauna. More information regarding your aftercare will provided by our qualified practitioner.
How long do the effects last?
Botox lasts for roughly 3 to 4 months on average and you should wait at least 3 months before getting Botox injections again. If you use it too frequently it may stop working.
